Dhaka University will celebrate its 105th founding anniversary on Tuesday, 1 July, with the theme “Dhaka University in Building an Inclusive and Equitable Society.” A daylong series of colourful programmes has been planned to mark the occasion.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan will formally inaugurate the celebrations at 10am at the TSC’s central premises (Peyara Chattar) as the chief guest, reads a press release shared on the official Facebook page of the University of Dhaka.

According to the programme schedule, teachers, students, alumni, officials, and staff from all halls and hostels will gather at Smriti Chironton at 9:30am and join a celebratory procession across the campus, led by the Vice-Chancellor at 9:45am.

The inauguration will include the hoisting of the national, university, and hall flags, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony. The Department of Music will present the national anthem and patriotic songs, while foreign students will also perform a special musical number.

At 10:30am, a discussion titled “Dhaka University in Building an Inclusive and Equitable Society” will be held at the TSC auditorium. Professor Dr S M A Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), will present the keynote. The Vice-Chancellor will chair the session, joined by Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Sayma Haque Bidisha, Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr Mamun Ahmed, and Treasurer Prof Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury as special guests.

Senate and Syndicate members, deans, hall provosts, department chairs, teachers, students, alumni, and officials are expected to attend the discussion. A commemorative publication marking the occasion will also be unveiled at the event.

To celebrate the day, key university buildings including the VC’s residence, Curzon Hall, Faculty of Arts, and TSC will be illuminated.

All classes will remain suspended from 10am to 12pm on 1 July to facilitate participation in the event, although examinations will continue as scheduled.

Dhaka University began its academic journey on 1 July, 1921.
