Govt to introduce Starlink internet in 100 CHT schools for e-learning

The government plans to introduce Starlink satellite internet connectivity in 100 schools across the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) within the next six months to promote e-learning and improve access to modern education in remote areas.
“This initiative will bring about a technological revolution in education,” said Supradip Chakma, adviser to the CHT affairs ministry. “Students in remote hilly areas will be able to attend online classes conducted by experienced teachers from urban centres, ensuring quality parity.”
He said this initiative would help students become proficient in technology, enabling them to pursue higher education and career opportunities. “My concern has always been to ensure quality education in the Chattogram Hill Tracts,” he added.
The government is working to provide technology-driven education for ethnically diverse students in the region. Plans are underway to build hostels at upazila and district levels to support satellite-based education.
Efforts are also being made to establish an engineering college, nursing college, orphanages, hostels, and students’ dormitories in the hill districts.
Besides education, the government has undertaken a three-year bamboo cultivation plan and expanded veterinary and fisheries projects to promote economic self-reliance.
“Bamboo will play a vital role in the economic development of the hill districts. We aim to increase production and usage to strengthen the region’s economy and address water scarcity,” said the adviser.
The government has also taken initiatives to cultivate cashew nuts, coffee and maize in the region, aiming to build a green, inclusive economy.
“Our goal is to protect the environment while developing the region. Bamboo is an important instrument for that,” he said.
Supradip Chakma stressed the importance of preserving communal harmony. “This government is committed to upholding the rights of all communities. We’re working so no one in the CHT is deprived.”
He said the people of the hill districts no longer want to be left behind. “We want to blend into the country’s mainstream. We all have responsibilities to society, religion and the state. Everyone must contribute.”
He also highlighted the untapped potential of Kaptai Lake in Rangamati, describing it as “gold” for its fish farming prospects, which could boost livelihoods in the area.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive development, he said, “With the leadership of the Chief Adviser and support from all stakeholders, we aim to build a prosperous and unified Bangladesh.”
He added that the government is also working to create a more conducive environment for sports and extracurricular activities for students in the region.
