CUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan said that higher engineering education fosters research and innovation, supporting modern industry and technology.

“Higher education in engineering plays an immense role in driving economic growth, improving healthcare and the environment, and strengthening national security. It equips engineers with the knowledge and skills to meet global challenges and to develop innovative, affordable, and sustainable solutions vital for national development,” he said.

He added that engineers, as members of society’s advanced class, carry significant responsibilities towards the nation and its people. “Only through professional excellence and the best application of intellect and creativity can they fulfill these responsibilities,” he noted, urging engineers to dedicate themselves to making modern life easier, safer, and better.

He addressed the orientation programme for postgraduate students of the 2024-25 (July 2025) academic year as the chief guest at CUET’s central auditorium on Thursday.

Special guests included the deans of CUET’s five faculties and the registrar (additional charge).

Computer Science and Engineering student Rabeya Sadia and Civil Engineering student Auwal Gabra Omar gave speeches on behalf of new students. CUET Director of Student Welfare, Prof. Dr. Md. Mahbubul Alam, chaired the programme, and Prof. Dr. Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury, along with Lecturer Ajmol Ahmed from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, conducted it.

Hafiz Mawlana Qari Nurullah, senior pesh imam of CUET Central Mosque, recited verses from the Holy Qur’an to begin the event.
