South Point Sports Club shines at Asian Throwball Championship 2025

South Point Sports Club (SPSC) has achieved remarkable success as runners-up at the Asian Throwball Championship 2025, held from 16–17 September at the Sukoon Arena Indoor Complex in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The championship featured men’s and women’s teams from Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, and India. India claimed the title in both categories. The awards ceremony was attended by Dr Mustapha Kamal Dato, President of the Asian Throwball Federation, as Chief Guest, alongside Dr Latif Uddin, Vice President of the Federation, and Mr Rezaul Karim from Bangladesh. Matches were officiated by referees Ramesh Mehraj and Fayaz Maroof from Sri Lanka, and Salehin from Malaysia.
Meanwhile, in the World Cadet Chess Championship 2025, three students from South Point School and College, Malibagh – Ajan Mahmud, Safayat Kibria Ajan, and Sidratul Muntaha – are representing Bangladesh in Kazakhstan. After the fourth round, Ajan Mahmud defeated Australia’s Betirbekov, Safayat overcame France’s Candidate Master Nikot Valentin, and Sidratul held Hungary’s Medvegi Maria to a draw. The championship continued until 2 October 2025.
At the recently concluded 52nd Summer Sports Competition 2025, organised by the Bangladesh National School, Madrasa and Technical Education Sports Association (Badda Zone, Dhaka Metropolitan), South Point School and College, Malibagh, won the handball championship in both boys’ and girls’ categories. In chess, its players triumphed in three out of four categories – Sayan Mirab Hasan (Boys’ Junior), Siam Chowdhury (Boys’ Senior), and Nilava Chowdhury (Girls’ Senior).
The South Point Sports Club Karate Team also excelled at the Open Karate Championship 2025, organised with the support of the Bangladesh Karate Federation. Out of nearly 1,100 participants nationwide, SPSC athletes secured seven gold, nine silver, and 19 bronze medals. The event was hosted by the Bangladesh Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Union.
Beyond sports, South Point continues to demonstrate excellence in academics. Ariz Anas, a student of the English Medium Section, won the National Biology Olympiad in Bangladesh and went on to earn a bronze medal at the International Olympiad in the Philippines. His achievement was further recognised through an invitation to meet the Honourable Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh.
Founder and Chairman of South Point School and College, Engineer M A Rashid, praised the leadership of Colonel (Retd) Md Shamsul Alam, psc, Principal of South Point School and College, Malibagh, and President of South Point Sports Club, for guiding the institution to distinction. He extended congratulations to the students, teachers, coaches, and parents for their collective efforts in bringing pride to the institution and to Bangladesh on both national and international platforms.
