Cambridge honours top-performing Bangladeshi students in Dhaka
A total of 124 Bangladeshi students have been recognised for their exceptional achievements in the June 2025 Cambridge examination series.
The awards were presented at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards (OCLA), co-hosted by the International Education group at Cambridge University Press & Assessment and the British Council on 27 November 2025, at Radisson Blu Dhaka.
The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards celebrate the achievements of students who sat examinations in June 2025, awarded by Cambridge International Education in more than forty countries. Cambridge International Education, which has been offering global examinations for over 160 years, honours learners in four categories: Top in the World, High Achievement, Top in Country, and Best Across.
Among the 124 awards presented this year, ninety-four Bangladeshi students received the prestigious “Top in the World” award for achieving the highest marks worldwide in individual subjects. Another forty-one students received “Top in Bangladesh” awards for attaining the highest marks nationally.
The ceremony was inaugurated by Sarwat Reza, Country Lead for Bangladesh at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, who delivered the welcome address. Rod Smith, Group Managing Director of International Education at Cambridge, shared a video message. Martin Dawson, Deputy Development Director at the British High Commission, highlighted the UK’s commitment to supporting educational excellence and strengthening bilateral ties.
Vinay Sharma, Regional Director of Cambridge International Education – South Asia, said: “Cambridge learners are at the heart of everything we do. Every element of a Cambridge education is carefully designed to help learners reach their potential and thrive. We are delighted to congratulate learners from Bangladesh on their academic achievements.”
In his address, Maxim Raimann, Exams Director for Bangladesh at the British Council, said: “Congratulations to all the high achievers who have demonstrated commitment, resilience, and ambition. We are delighted to partner with Cambridge International Education in delivering exams through innovative approaches that expand accessibility, support teacher development, and recognise excellence.”
Professor Dr Khandokar Ehsanul Kabir, Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, underscored the need for quality education, academic excellence, and collective efforts to shape the future of young learners.
Several Cambridge alumni shared reflections on their academic journeys. Rizq Amin Khan, a Cambridge A-Level graduate from Playpen now studying at BUET; Samiha Sehmeem Khan, a Manarat Dhaka International School and College alumna now at Armed Forces Medical College; and Flight Lieutenant Hisham of BAF Shaheen English Medium College, who joined the Bangladesh Air Force, spoke at the event. Students from Glenrich International School performed a cultural segment.
The High Achievement awards were presented by Zunayed Ahmed, Director of Operations at the British Council, and Juliet Gomes, Academic Advisor at Cambridge University Press & Assessment. The Top in Country awards were handed over by Vinay Sharma and Tahnee Yeasmin, Business Development Director at the British Council. Yeasmin concluded the ceremony by thanking all partners and participants for their contributions.
