
Advisor- Energy Efficiency (Finance) | GIZ
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.
GIZ Bangladesh is currently seeking applications for the position of Advisor- Energy Efficiency (Finance) from candidates under Energy Efficiency for Development (EE4Dev) project.

A. Responsibilities
- Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior.
- Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups.
- Advise supervisor on all tasks when implementing GIZ rules and regulations.
- Advise supervisor in the field of project planning, steering and monitoring.
- Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager.
- Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit.
- Assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solution
The position holder is responsible for the following tasks:
B. Tasks
- Analyse energy audit results to identify energy efficiency measures with strong investment potential.
- Peovide supports industrial companies in developing investment-ready energy efficient project concepts.
- Assist companies in preparing financial and technical documentation required for financing applications.
- Facilitate cooperation between industrial companies and financial institutions such as banks and development finance institutions.
- Support collaboration with national financing institutions e.g. Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) to develop financial products for energy efficiency investments.
- Provide technical support to financial institutions in assessing energy efficiency projects and related risks.
- Promote awareness among financial institutions on the business case for energy efficiency financing.
- Provide analytical input to policy discussions on improving the enabling environment for energy efficiency financing.
- Contribute evidence and lessons learned from project implementation to policy dialogue with government stakeholders
- Support discussions on integrating energy efficiency financing mechanisms into national energy and climate strategies.
C. Required qualifications, competencies and experience
Academic qualifications
- Master’s degree in business administration with major in finance, economics, energy economics, engineering, or a related field.
Professional experience
- 5 years of relevant professional experience in energy finance, climate finance, sustainable finance, or infrastructure financing.
- Experience in structuring or financing energy efficiency or renewable energy projects.
- Experience working with financial institutions, development finance institutions, or investment funds.
- Experience in international development cooperation projects is an asset.
Other knowledge, additional competencies
- Proven expertise in structured finance, with the ability to architect models that de-risk large-scale energy initiatives. Proven expertise in structured finance, financial modelling and project finance
- A deep analytical background in energy efficiency investment analysis, focused on maximizing ROI and internal rates of return (IRR).
- Advanced capability in quantitative Risk assessment of energy efficiency projects
- Knowledge of financing instruments for sustainable energy projects.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
- Ability to bridge technical and financial perspectives.
- Ability to work well under pressure and must be a strong team player.
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluency in English and Bangla is essential.
- Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team in a multi-cultural environment.
