Advisor- Energy Efficiency | GIZ Bangladesh

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise with worldwide operations. GIZ supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh since 1972 under bilateral agreement. Currently, we are working in the areas of renewable energy, adaptation to climate change, private sector development and technical education, biodiversity, as well as good governance and displacement.

GIZ Bangladesh is currently seeking applications for the position of Advisor- Energy Efficiency (Industry) from candidates under Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Development (EE4Dev) project.

A. Responsibilities

• Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives, team agreements and/or agreements with the superior.
• Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups.
• Advise supervisor on all tasks when implementing GIZ rules and regulations.
• Advise supervisor in the field of project planning, steering and monitoring.
• Independently implement goals and requirements set by the line manager.
• Make decisions which have a short-term effect within a limited project area/ unit.
• Assist supervisor to identify day to day problem and suggest appropriate solution

The position holder is responsible for the following tasks:

B. Tasks

• Provide policy and regulatory advice to government partners (e.g. Power Division, SREDA, BSTI) to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in industry.
• Support government partners (Power Division, SREDA) in better enforcement of energy audit regulations, and setting up of digital data management system.
• Engage with industry associations and sector stakeholders to promote energy management practices.
• Identify energy efficiency measures with high investment potential based on audit findings.
• Design and implement capacity development measures for public and private sectors in the area of energy conservation, energy audits in industry sector
• Prepare Terms of Reference, manage technical studies and contracts, and ensure quality assurance in project implementation.
• Contribute to knowledge management, visibility, and monitoring & evaluation through documentation, reporting, and participation in sectoral platforms
• Support policy discussions related to industrial energy efficiency targets and their integration into national energy strategies and climate commitments.

C. Required qualifications, competencies and experience

Academic qualifications

• Bachelors in Mechanical/ Civil/Industrial/ Electrical/ Chemical/ Environmental Engineering or Renewable Energy or Power Engineering. Master’s degree in any discipline is preferred.
• Preference will be given to individuals holding recognized certifications in energy auditing or management.

Professional experience

• 5 years of professional experience in energy efficiency and management, with specific expertise in conducting industrial energy audits and performing techno-economic feasibility studies.
• Strong coordination experience with multiple partner organisations, specifically in public sector.
• Experience in Energy Management Systems (EMS).
• Experience in establishing and maintaining professional relationship with stakeholders, particularly the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) agencies as well as other development partners,

Other knowledge, additional competencies

• Ability to work well under pressure and must be a strong team player.
• Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team in a multi-cultural environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, hands-on experience with digital data systems, and familiarity with various communication tools and modern IT systems.
• Fluency in English and Bangla (both oral and written) is essential.
• Knowledge of German language would be an advantage.
• Familiarity with development cooperation, bilateral or multilateral organizations
