IUB launches undergraduate major in Supply Chain Management
IUB launches undergraduate major in Supply Chain Management
The Department of General Management under the School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) officially marked the launch of its highly anticipated undergraduate major in Supply Chain Management. The launch event took place today, 16 July 2026, at 11:00 am at the DMK Lecture Gallery 9006 on the university campus.
The launching ceremony highlighted a formidable alignment between academia and leading industry practitioners, featuring a panel of distinguished corporate leaders and global development experts as honourable guests:
Mr. Niaz Rahim, Group Managing Director of Rahimafrooz.
Mr. Humayun Rashid, Managing Director of Energypac Power Generation PLC.
Mr. Mirza Shajib Raihan, Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham).
Dr. Md. Mahbub Alam, Partner at The World Bank.
Equipping Future Leaders for Systemic Disruptions
In an era defined by rapid global shifts and systemic shocks in energy, logistics, and resource distribution, the introduction of this major represents a strategic expansion of IUB’s academic portfolio. With formal authorisation from the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh secured earlier this year, IUB stands among a select group of national universities offering a specialised undergraduate programme in this field.
Designed as a comprehensive four-year programme requiring a minimum of 130 credits, the curriculum offers structured exposure to:
Core functions: Sourcing and procurement, logistics, demand planning, inventory management, and supplier relations.
Strategic domains: Managing global supply chains, risk analysis, sustainability, and strategic decision-making.
Analytical electives: Lean Six Sigma, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Project Management.
The curriculum is heavily structured to move beyond traditional classroom learning. It emphasises applied, hands-on knowledge so that graduates can navigate interconnected regional and international markets, analyse disruptions in real time, and make data-driven strategic decisions under pressure.
Admission and Intake
Students looking to build a career in global logistics, procurement, and strategic operations can enrol in the Supply Chain Management major starting from the Autumn 2026 semester. The admission process is currently underway.
