Job Context
The Senior Fabric Technologist / Fabric Technologist holds the accountability for managing all technical issues related to fabrics, utilizing technical knowledge of yarns, fabric manufacturing, dyeing, and finishing to carry out risk assessments along with quality teams, and guiding factories on critical developments and bulk. The incumbent will also be responsible for working closely with the Design & Innovation Department, identifying the latest trends and innovations in fabrics, sourcing, and developing fabrics across knit & woven categories.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure use of chemicals in dyeing fabrics are either buyer-nominated sources or within ZXY hazardous chemical internal limits and ISO chemical standards.
- Carry out risk assessments during development and pre-production meetings.
- Take the necessary corrective actions and resend for approval in case of customer comments.
- Receive fabric swatch cards or original cuttings from customers via merchandisers.
- Conduct detailed analysis and evaluation on fabric structure, design analysis, and detailed knowledge about backward and forward processes like types of yarn, winding, warping, sizing, drawing, denting, weaving, greige fabric inspection, dyeing, finishing, overdye, washing, etc.
- Declare the fabrication, construction, weave, weight, color pattern and repeat size, finish type, and finished width of the swatch received from buyers.
- Liaise with the lab team and ensure their fabric evaluation is aligned, and update the QAM and merchant team.
- Analyze order sheets and provide detailed risk analysis with approval.
- Proceed with sampling batches and proto size sets (fabrication-wise) upon approval.
- Follow up on fabric quality as per standards, shade band lot-wise, and ensure approval.
- Monitor fabric production in factories, including yarn in-house, knitting, dyeing, and provide updates to the QAM and merchant team.
- Oversee inventory follow-up, yarn in-house, knitting, and fabric dyeing as per TNA to ensure no delays.
- Oversee fabric inspection reports and ensure quality fabric/PP matches approved parameters.
- Ensure fabric is in-house on time so that cutting starts as per the Planned Cut Date (PCD), and update the quality and merchant teams.
- Work closely with the Design team to identify the latest trends and innovations in fabrics.
- Research special chemical finishes, yarns, fabrics, and dyes for new developments.
- Develop new fabrics based on fashion trends while working closely with fabric mills.
- Conduct random inspections of bulk fabric, undertake quality evaluations of materials, and check the quality of the final product.
- Visit fabric mills (local or overseas) to source fabrics as per customer specifications.
Experience and Educational Requirements
- Graduate in Textile Manufacturing from a well-reputed institute.
- At least 6 years of relevant work experience in a Buying House or Factory.
- Experience in both knit & woven categories.
- Experience with Menswear, Womenswear, and Kidswear product safety and process controls.
