Scholarship overview

The University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship programme designed to attract talented international students from a specific list of countries (check the official website for the list).  The scholarship supports students pursuing their first undergraduate or postgraduate studies (excluding PhD and MPhil) at the University of Waikato.  Awards range from $2,500 to $15,000 towards tuition fees, spread over a tenure of 1 to 3 years.

Eligibility criteria

• Citizenship: Be a citizen of a country listed on the scholarship webpage (check the official website).
• New Student: Be a new international student, not currently enrolled at the University of Waikato.
• Programme Level: Apply for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programme (excluding Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil)).
• Academic Achievement: Have a minimum GPA equivalent of B+ in the qualification used for admission to the University of Waikato.
• University Offer: Hold a conditional or unconditional offer of admission from the University of Waikato, including pathway programme offers.
• Admission Method: Not be admitted through a sponsoring body, guaranteed credit arrangement, or study abroad/exchange programme.

Application process

The application process is two-fold:

• Program Admission: Apply for admission to your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate programme at the University of Waikato. This application is not binding and can be withdrawn or updated.
• Scholarship Application: Once you have received an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional), you will be eligible to access the scholarship application form.

Selection process

Scholarship recipients are chosen based on a combination of factors:

• Academic merit: Your academic record, including your GPA, will be a key factor in the selection process.
• Potential: The selection committee will consider your potential to become a global ambassador for the University of Waikato.
