As intense heatwave sweeps over the country, a few students of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) have come forward to help those in need.
They provided water bottles to the rickshaw pullers around their university gate and surrounding Mirpur 12 area yesterday (22 April).
“We are used to air-conditioners in our classes as well as at home, but the rickshaw ride home felt like hell. So, I thought to myself, it must be really hard for the rickshaw pullers who toil under the Sun the whole day. We spend hundreds on a single meal, why not spend that amount to buy water bottles for the ones who transport us in times of need,” said Shihabun Sakib, one of the four youngsters of the Mass Communication and Journalism department who distributed the water bottles.
“I shared the idea of doing something for the rickshaw pullers with some of my friends and they joined me in the endeavour,” he added.
They extended a helping hand to rickshaw pullers battling the scorching 38°C (Feels like 42°C) weather.
A video of them distributing the water bottles was released on social media, regarding which Sakib said, the reason behind sharing the video of the incident is to inspire others to do the same.
“Also, we will continue to do more activities like these in future as well,” said Sakib while adding that anyone is welcome to join them.
