A critical discussion on the reform of the education system at the University of Dhaka took place today, 09 September, 2024, at the Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium.
Organised by the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association, the event saw active participation from the university’s top leadership, faculty members, and student representatives, highlighting the urgent need for educational reforms.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, graced the session with a keynote address, emphasising the university’s role in adapting to global educational standards while maintaining its wonderful cultural and academic identity.
Treasurer Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Professor Selim Raihan from the Department of Economics contributed to the discussion as well.
Student voices were also heard, with Umama Fatema and Abdul Kader, coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, passionately advocating for reforms that ensure equity and inclusivity within the educational framework.
Professor Jobaida Nasrin (Anthropology), Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun (Japanese Studies), Dr. Khorshed Alam (Mass Communication and Journalism), and Dr. Shahman Moishan (Theatre and Performance) were also present.
Professor Robayet Ferdous, from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, moderated the session with keen insight, ensuring that all perspectives were considered.
The Dhaka University Teachers’ Association reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing reform efforts free from partisan influences, focusing solely on the academic and intellectual advancement of the university community.
Participants left with a sense of purpose, recognising that the future of Dhaka University depends on the successful implementation of these crucial reforms.
