BRAC University recently organised the Urban October Photo Exhibition 2025. The event, part of the broader Urban October celebrations led by the BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, provided a platform for students, faculty, and community members to reflect on the challenges and hopes facing Dhaka city through photography.

The exhibition centred on three themes: City in Crisis, Living on the Edge, and People at the Centre, capturing stories of urban life, environmental hazards, and human resilience. Visitors engaged with the exhibits, sharing perspectives on air and water pollution, urban waste, traffic congestion, and social vulnerability.

Photographs by BRAC University members received notable attention. Mr Ashiqur Rahman, Psychological Counsellor, presented three works admired for their insightful portrayal of city life. Dr Moyen Zalal Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and Social Sciences, showcased a striking image of a motorcyclist passing a roadside fire amid unfinished high-rises, symbolising environmental and developmental tensions in Dhaka. Portraits by students Md Rakib Hasan Ontu, Injamamul Haque Fahim, and Ahtesham Mostafa highlighted the creativity of the younger generation.

The exhibition concluded with a certificate-giving ceremony recognising all contributors.

The Urban October Photo Exhibition 2025 fostered community engagement, highlighted Dhaka’s complex urban realities, and reinforced BRAC University’s commitment to addressing critical social issues through art and academic collaboration.
