BRAC CAT

BRAC University has come out with a statement after recent meetings regarding the removal of cats on its campus, and is assuring students and staff that the move taken was made considering the safety and the welfare of the animals.

The university reported that it is still dedicated to the human and responsible treatment of animals, and that the foster homes of the campus cats have already been established with the assistance of reputable animal welfare organizations and it would be doing so again.

The move was based on reports by students and staff members on incidences of free-roaming cats, in some cases, scratching and biting them, and hygiene issues related to food and areas of study. The university further confirmed that although most community members are so much concerned about the animals, they cannot feed them regularly, vaccinate them, and take them to the veterinary clinic as it is currently not in the university.

BRAC University declared a number of measures to help deal with the problem:

  1. Resettling the cats in the crowded and delicate zones in a secure and responsible manner.

2. Collaboration with established animal-welfare groups to foster and adopt, as well as provide veterinary care.

3. At the campus letting interested students and staff formally adopt campus cats.

Those students and staff, who want to adopt or foster, have been requested to approach Mr. Md Akterujjaman, Senior Manager, Operations, to get the help.

The university stated that it was thankful that the community understands and cares about its welfare, and that their aim is to keep the campus safe and at the same time, practice humanity on animals.
