BRAC University formally welcomed its Spring 2026 intake at its Merul Badda campus on Wednesday, underscoring the importance of responsible innovation, ethical leadership, and student achievement.
Addressing the inaugural gathering, Johan Buse, Chief Executive Officer of Banglalink Digital Communications Limited, urged students to take an active role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence. He emphasized the need to govern AI thoughtfully, rather than allowing technology to dictate societal outcomes.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar called on the new cohort to embrace diversity, identify gaps in knowledge and practice, and act responsibly in service of the nation and society. He highlighted the university’s commitment to producing graduates who combine academic excellence with civic responsibility.
The programme also recognized outstanding student achievements across innovation, advocacy, and sports. Feroza Mahzabin was honoured as a champion of Grameenphone FutureMakers for developing “Ishara,” an AI-powered Bangla sign language application. Tasmia Mahmud Parisha received recognition for securing fifth position by leading her team to the quarterfinals of an international moot court competition held in Gujarat, India. Lamia Ahmed Khan was awarded for winning a bronze medal at a taekwondo championship in Nepal, where her three-member team secured silver overall.
University officials noted that such accomplishments reflect BRAC University’s broader mission to contribute to Bangladesh’s development in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
With the Spring 2026 intake, BRAC University reiterated its focus on nurturing future-ready leaders equipped to drive inclusive growth and innovation in Bangladesh and beyond.
