Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman has strongly condemned the physical assault on Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Masud.
In a statement issued on Thursday (20 February) by BUET’s Senior Assistant Director (Information) Md Shafiur Rahman, Dr Badruzzaman expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that no justification could validate such an attack on a teacher. He demanded a neutral investigation and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
Dr Badruzzaman also urged all parties to resolve the ongoing disputes through dialogue and expressed his sympathy for the injured.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (18 February) following clashes over the ban on student politics at KUET. Later that night, agitated students confined the Vice-Chancellor to the campus, demanding an apology for his alleged failure in handling the situation. When Dr Masud denied any wrongdoing, tensions escalated, leading to his alleged assault. He later fell ill and was admitted to KUET’s medical centre.
