BUFT English Club hosts ‘Mission Extempore’ competition
The BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) English Club organised the “Mission Extempore” competition on 7 January 2026 at the university’s multipurpose hall, with the aim of enhancing students’ spontaneous speaking ability, confidence and critical thinking skills.
Ahead of the competition, participants took part in a five-day grooming programme focusing on extempore speaking techniques, language fluency and presentation skills. The competition itself was conducted in three stages—qualifying, semi-final and final rounds—ensuring a comprehensive and competitive evaluation process.
The event was attended by Ayub Nabi Khan, acting vice-chancellor of BUFT, as the special guest. Following an intense semi-final round, ten participants advanced to the final round, where they demonstrated clarity of thought, originality and confidence, making the judging process highly competitive.
The final round was evaluated by a panel comprising Mohammad Imtiaj, director of the department of public relations; Shahriar Parvin, head of the department of English; Chowdhury Bakhtiar Uddin, lecturer, department of English; and Maisha Sadaf, lecturer, department of English. The judges provided constructive feedback and conducted the evaluation with impartiality, contributing to the overall success of the programme.
At the closing ceremony, three participants were awarded prize money for their performance. Waseur Rahman, from the department of textile engineering, emerged as champion and received Tk7000. Jannatul Firdaush Mim, from the department of fashion studies, secured the first runner-up position and received Tk5000, while Jeba Maliha, from the department of environmental science, became second runner-up and received Tk3000.
The competition was widely appreciated by students and faculty members for its effective organisation and its role in strengthening essential communication and leadership skills. Through Mission Extempore, the BUFT English Club reaffirmed its commitment to fostering excellence, confidence and leadership in English communication among students.
