BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), in association with BUFT Games and Sports Club hosted a colorful Prize Giving Ceremony yesterday (14 July), at the BUFT Multipurpose Hall to honour the winners of two major sporting events – the Bijoy Dibosh Badminton Tournament 2024 and the Intra-University Swimming Competition 2025.

The event was graced by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BUFT, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique, Founder Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor, were present as Special Guests.

The event was attended by Deans, Department Heads, faculty members, officers, and students, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and celebration. The programme  recognised the exceptional performances of students, faculty, and staff in both badminton and swimming events, reflecting BUFT’s commitment to promoting a balanced academic environment where physical activity and wellness are equally valued alongside academic excellence.

In the Bijoy Dibosh Badminton Tournament 2024, Mr. Md. Ainul Haque Rafi emerged as the Men’s Singles Champion, while Ms. Shahrin Islam Suchi won the Women’s Singles title. Mr. Hasan Abdullah Sanim and Mr. Ahsab Kahab Hridoy clinched the Men’s Doubles trophy, and Ms. Shahrin Islam Suchi along with Ms. Lamia Afrin Rusana secured victory in the Women’s Doubles. In the Mixed Doubles category, Mr. Shadman Rahman and Ms. Ainani Tajrian took the championship.

Among faculty and officers, Mr. G. M. Waesh Koroni dominated multiple categories, winning the Men’s Singles, Doubles (with Mr. Md. Masudur Rahman), and Mixed Doubles (with Ms. Umme Sumaiya). Ms. Moni Jafar Pingki triumphed in the Women’s Singles category. In the Above 50 category, Prof. Dr. Md. Alamgir Hossain, and Prof. Dr. Md. Sanaullah claimed the Men’s Doubles title, while Prof. Hossain also secured the Singles championship.

The Intra-University Swimming Competition 2025 featured remarkable performances as well. Among students, Md. Rejaul Islam Hero secured first place in the Men’s Freestyle event, while Methila Chonom claimed the Women’s Freestyle title. Shakib Ahmmad excelled in the Men’s Breaststroke event. In the Men’s 4×15m Relay, the team comprising Palash Sutra Dhar, Md. Siam Khan, Kowser Bhuiyan, and Md. Sanjit Sarker emerged victorious.

Faculty and officers also showcased their athletic prowess. Mr. Md. Moniruzzaman took the top position in the Men’s Freestyle, while Ms. Urmila Mukhtar Jeny won the Women’s Freestyle and Breaststroke categories. Mr. Md. Raijul Islam stood out in the Men’s Breaststroke event.

The vibrant event concluded with the distribution of trophies and certificates amid loud applause and appreciation.
