The Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) marked the first anniversary of its politics-free campus initiative on 8 August, celebrating the milestone with a series of student-led activities that reinforced the institution’s commitment to academic focus and non-partisan student engagement.

The anniversary follows the landmark “Students Against Discrimination” movement, which led to the campus being declared free of political influence. A student gathering culminated in a “Victory March” across campus, underscoring the collective commitment to maintaining the current academic environment.

The event featured remarks from two senior faculty members who played key roles in supporting the students during the original movement. They stressed the importance of continued unity and urged the immediate formation of an apolitical student body to ensure representation and accountability.

The Director of the Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW) also addressed the audience, affirming the administration’s continued support for student welfare and its intent to safeguard the non-political campus environment.

Student representatives from each academic batch shared reflections on the past year, emphasising their shared aspiration for a disruption-free academic experience. Their statements reflected strong consensus across the student body in support of the politics-free framework.

The programme concluded with symbolic gestures, including a tree plantation activity to promote sustainability and community engagement, followed by the distribution of confectioneries among participants.
