The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh, in collaboration with North South University (NSU), organised “Chinese Culture Night 2026” on Sunday (1 March) at the university plaza, celebrating the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival through a vibrant showcase of traditional cultural activities.

Held from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, the event reflected the longstanding friendship between China and Bangladesh, rooted in centuries of cultural exchange and mutual appreciation. The programme offered participants an immersive experience of Chinese New Year traditions while strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.

A key attraction was the traditional lantern riddle-solving segment, a popular Lantern Festival activity symbolising wisdom and hope. Participants enthusiastically engaged in solving riddles attached to colourful lanterns and received prizes.

The clay horse crafting session drew significant interest, marking 2026 as the Year of the Horse in the Chinese lunar calendar. In Chinese culture, the horse symbolises vitality, progress and success. Students and guests created clay horse figures representing prosperity and positive energy for the year ahead.

The celebration also featured a family reunion photo zone inspired by the New Year tradition of family gatherings, alongside a creative couplet-writing activity where participants composed traditional red couplets conveying festive blessings and aspirations.

A dedicated game zone added to the festive spirit, offering activities such as horse racing games, ping-pong relays and arrow throwing, encouraging active participation from students and visitors.

Organisers said the event aimed to promote cultural understanding and provide Bangladeshi students with firsthand exposure to Chinese customs and traditions. Through initiatives like Chinese Culture Night, both countries continue to strengthen people-to-people connections and deepen mutual appreciation of their rich cultural heritage.

The programme concluded with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members and guests, reinforcing the spirit of friendship and cultural harmony between Bangladesh and China.
