Comilla University celebrates Janmashtami for the first time

For the first time, Cumilla University (CoU) observed the Janmashtami festival on campus, organised by the university’s Sanatan students’ body, Puja Udjapon Parishad.
The celebrations began yesterday (16 August) at 4pm with harinam sankirtan (devotional chanting), seeking world peace and the welfare of all beings.
The programme lineup included kirtan (religious songs) at 4pm, a discussion at 5 pm, sandhya arati (evening prayer) at 6pm, and the ceremonial birth observance of Lord Krishna at 8pm. The event concluded with the distribution of prasad (blessed food offering) among students.
Speaking about the occasion, Sajib Biswas, general secretary of Puja Udjapon Parishad, said, “We are celebrating the auspicious Janmashtami of Lord Krishna. Through this festival, we embrace his eternal teachings of truth, justice, tolerance, triumph of righteousness and defeat of unrighteousness. With everyone’s sincere support, we were able to successfully organise this sacred celebration.”
The organisation’s president, Sourav Biswas, added, “This festival marks the 5,252nd Janmashtami of Lord Krishna. It reminds us of the values of justice, tolerance, the victory of virtue and the fall of vice. Considering the current situation of the country, we organised the harinam sankirtan (devotional chanting) for global peace and the wellbeing of all living beings. Like every other occasion, with the cooperation of the administration and everyone’s support, we were able to celebrate Janmashtami on campus.”
