They outmanoeuvred the Government Teachers’ Training College in a closely contested final.

The event was organised by Debate for Democracy. It drew participants from institutions nationwide and was held in a vibrant, competitive atmosphere.

This year’s motion was: “Increasing revenue income should be the main strategy in the upcoming budget to ensure economic security.”

Renowned economist Professor Dr Selim Jahan attended as the chief guest. He is the former director of the UNDP Human Development Report Office. The session was chaired by Hasan Ahmed Kiron, president of Debate for Democracy.

Eastern University’s winning team—Kaniz Fatema Ritu, Fatema Tuj Johura, and Daliya Soikot—secured the title. They won through compelling arguments, teamwork, and exceptional debating skills.

Key attendees included Meherba Sabrin, coordinator of the Eastern University Debating Club and lecturer in law. Others present were KM Monirul Islam, deputy director of student affairs and placement; Md Mohiuddin Majumder, assistant director of public relations; and Syed Sabet Ibne Mahmud, president of the Debating Club, alongside a large student contingent.
