‘Geoplan 1.0’: RUET celebrates World Town Planning Day and GIS Day
Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) marked World Town Planning Day and GIS Day with a national event titled Geoplan 1.0, jointly organised by the RUET GIS Club and USAR under the supervision of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP).
Professor Dr Engr S M Abdur Razzak, Vice-Chancellor of RUET, attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Z H M Monjur Murshed, Deputy Director, DSW, RUET, representing Professor Dr Md Rabiul Islam Sarker, Director of the Directorate of Student Welfare.
The programme was attended by sector leaders, including Professor Dr Adil Muhammad Khan, President of the Bangladesh Institute of Planners; Dr Muhammad Ariful Islam, Executive Director, Sheltech Consultants Pvt Ltd and newly elected President of the 17th Executive Board (2026–27) of BIP; and Professor Dr Md Mostafizur Rahman, Advisor of the RUET GIS Club.
The event was chaired by Professor Dr Md Abdul Wakil on behalf of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning in the absence of the Head of the Department, Professor Dr Mst Ilme Faridatul.
Geoplan 1.0 featured national-level poster, documentary, photography, cartography and GIS-based competitions, drawing participation from universities across the country and creating an engaging, knowledge-driven environment for students.
A keynote session was delivered by Shubha Kanti Poddar, Deputy Executive Urban Planner, Sheltech Consultants Pvt Ltd and newly elected BIP Board Member – Academic Affairs, along with Abdullah Al Rakib, Assistant Urban Planner (GIS and RS), Sheltech Consultants Pvt Ltd.
The event began with a rally and a formal inauguration through balloon and banner release. All competition segments were held throughout the day, followed by result announcements based on expert evaluations.
The programme concluded with a prize-giving ceremony and closing remarks, expressing appreciation to guests, participants and organisers, formally bringing Geoplan 1.0 to a close.
