GPH International School hosts colourful annual pitha festival
The Annual Pitha Festival was celebrated at GPH International School, the only English-medium school in Munshiganj district, on 29 January, 2026.
Held on the school campus, the festival brought together students, teachers, parents and invited guests in a festive atmosphere, highlighting Bangladesh’s rich winter culinary heritage and rural traditions.
As part of its regular co-curricular activities, GPH International School organises cultural programmes to familiarise students with the country’s heritage and traditions. The Pitha Festival was arranged with the objective of introducing students to a wide range of traditional and decorative pithas from different regions of Bangladesh through exhibitions, while encouraging appreciation of indigenous culture.
The campus remained vibrant throughout the day, with students presenting dance performances, songs and poetry recitations. The enthusiastic participation of young learners added to the festive spirit and drew active engagement from parents, teachers and staff members.
Inaugurating the festival, Principal of GPH International School Brigadier General (retd) Khandaker Farhad Hossain said serving pitha during winter is an integral part of Bangladesh’s rural culture and family traditions. He noted that the custom of sharing pitha during family gatherings and social occasions strengthens bonds and reflects warmth and affection within households.
He said the festival was organised to introduce students to this cultural heritage and to instil an understanding of traditional practices from an early age.
The principal also thanked parents for their spontaneous participation and expressed hope that similar cultural events and competitions would continue to be organised regularly in line with the academic calendar.
