The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) has expressed keen interest in setting up a campus in Bangladesh.
Anil Kejriwal from IIT Kanpur, India, expressed this interest during a meeting with State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak on 30 June.
They discussed the prospect of setting up an IIT Kanpur campus in Bangladesh. The conversation also covered bringing high-tech industries to the existing high-tech parks of Bangladesh, underground government commitments, and the necessary support to make Startup Bangladesh a success. Both parties are optimistic about positively impacting Bangladesh’s growth and innovation.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), with its 23 campuses spread across India, stands as the most sought-after institutions for aspiring engineers. Among these, IIT Delhi has earned a distinguished place, securing the 150th position in the QS World University Rankings.
In a significant move in 2016, the Indian government opened the doors of these prestigious institutes to Bangladeshi students. Eligible candidates from Bangladesh can now pursue undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programmes at IITs across India. However, aspiring students must first clear the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) to secure admission to these esteemed institutions.
