IUB commemorates first anniversary of the July Movement

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a commemorative event titled “Memoirs of the July Movement” to mark the first anniversary of the mass uprising that took place in July 2024.
Held at the university’s DMK Lecture Gallery, the programme brought together students, faculty, and staff to reflect on their experiences and share personal accounts of the events. A key objective of the event was to initiate the documentation of individual and collective memories with the goal of producing an academic publication.
Vice Chancellor Professor M. Tamim, who played a leading role in the movement, reflected on the significance of the events and their aftermath. He emphasised the responsibility of the youth—particularly students—to continue guiding the nation in the right direction.
The event marks the beginning of a series of programmes IUB has planned to observe the July Movement’s first anniversary. These include an academic seminar, musical and theatrical performances, photography and art exhibitions, a painting competition, and a community cleanliness initiative in the Bashundhara Residential Area. Additionally, chess and futsal tournaments will be held as part of the observance.
