The School of Law at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a seminar titled “Global Legal Governance from Asian Perspectives” on 9 March 2026. The event featured presentations and discussions on key issues in international law and global governance.

Prof. Dr Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuiyan, Dean of the School of Law, moderated the seminar. The programme opened with remarks from Prof. Dr Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, Head of the Department of Law, who highlighted the importance of Asian perspectives in international legal discourse. Prof. M. Tamim, Vice-Chancellor of IUB, attended the event as the chief guest and delivered the opening address.

Presentations were delivered by Dr Takao Suami, Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Law, Waseda University, Japan, who spoke on global constitutionalism and international law; and Dr Toshiki Mogami, Professor Emeritus at International Christian University, Tokyo, who discussed debates surrounding the status of international law.

Other speakers included Prof. Dr Md Abdul Awal Khan from IUB’s Department of Law, who examined constitutional supremacy, state sovereignty and cross-border climate mobility in South Asia; and Kiwako Murata, Research Fellow at the School of Law, Kyoto University, Japan, who addressed criminal procedure, habeas corpus and rule-of-law issues in Bangladesh.

Prof. Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, Adviser to the IUB School of Law, and Prof. Dr Mohammad Shahabuddin of the University of Birmingham, UK, offered comments on the presentations.

The seminar concluded with an interactive discussion session where faculty members, students and participants exchanged views with the speakers on issues related to international law and global governance.
