IUB seminar explores global literary giants and environmental themes
Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) hosted an academic seminar on 13 April 2026, bringing together discussions on literature, cultural interpretation and environmental thought.
The event, titled “Words and Worlds: Shakespeare, Ibsen, and The Ballad of Titumir”, was organised by the Department of English and Modern Languages.
The seminar featured Hakon Arald Gulbrandsen, Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh, as the guest of honour.
The keynote address was delivered by Ahmed Ahsanuzzaman, who examined the cultural adaptation of classic literary works in his talk, “Hamlet and A Doll’s House on the Bengali Screen”, referencing works by William Shakespeare and Henrik Ibsen.
The session concluded with a recitation of “The Ballad of Titumir” by Rabiah Binthe Hossain, adding a local literary dimension to the discussion.
Organisers said the seminar aimed to encourage interdisciplinary engagement by connecting global literary traditions with local cultural narratives and contemporary academic discourse.
