IUT hosts first edition of national automobile festival AutoMech

The first edition of AutoMech, the signature national event organised by the IUT Automobile Society, was held on the Gazipur campus of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) on 8–9 August.

The two-day festival featured diverse segments on robotics, automobiles, and gaming, including Soccerbot, a CAD competition, a hackathon, a project display, and a business case competition. Among these, two events drew the most attention: Engine Blueprint and SimSurge.

In Engine Blueprint, teams assembled a full-scale four-cylinder IC engine, offering participants a real-life, hands-on experience of automobile engineering. This unique segment has been organised only a few times before in any automobile festival in Bangladesh. SimSurge, a competitive sim-racing event, was held at the university level for the first time in the country. It was organised in collaboration with the Automobile Association of Bangladesh under the official licence of FIA.

A motor show on the IUT campus showcased exclusive car models and editions displayed by Dashboard, M4 Autos, and BYD, attracting visitors from various universities. Vehicles developed by students of IUB and SUST, alongside the Formula Student car of IUT, were also exhibited.

The event concluded with the announcement of its second edition, AutoMech 2.0, expected to be organised soon following the success of this year’s programme.

The Business Standard served as the print and online media partner, while TBS Graduates was the youth engagement partner of the event.
