Jalalabad Cantonment English School & College (JCESC) has signed a partnership agreement with the British Council to introduce internationally benchmarked English language assessments for its primary and secondary students.
The agreement was signed today (18 July) at the JCESC campus in Sylhet in the presence of senior representatives from the British Council, the school’s principal and vice-principal, faculty members, guardians and students from Classes III to XII.
Under the partnership, JCESC will introduce the British Council’s Primary English Test and Secondary English Test to assess and benchmark the English language proficiency of students.
The agreement also designates JCESC as an official IELTS registration centre, enabling students, teachers and guardians to register for the examination through the institution.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Zunayed Ahmed, Managing Director and Head of Market, Bangladesh, British Council, said, “Our first-of-a-kind partnership with Jalalabad Cantonment English School and College brings benchmarked English assessments directly to primary and secondary students. By fostering robust language proficiency from a young age, we are paving the way for the next generation of global citizens, and we thank the JCESC leadership team for being the pioneer in this journey.”
Principal Lieutenant Colonel Md Arifur Rahman, psc, PhD, AEC, thanked the British Council for selecting the institution as a partner.
“I sincerely thank the British Council for choosing our institution as a trusted partner. We highly value this collaboration and are committed to making it successful through our dedication and continuous efforts. I am confident that this partnership will strengthen English education in our institution and inspire our students to become confident global citizens,” he said.
The programme also featured a presentation by Anika Bushra, Account Relationship Manager, British Council Bangladesh, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session where parents and students learned more about the assessments and their academic benefits.
According to the organisers, the partnership is expected to strengthen English language education at JCESC while creating greater opportunities for students in higher education and global engagement.
