The Jahangirnagar University Research Society (JURS) celebrated its second anniversary and marked the official handover of its new executive committee by hosting the “JURS 2nd Year Anniversary & Committee Handover Ceremony” yesterday (16 August) at the seminar room of the Zahir Raihan Auditorium.

The chief guests were Professor Dr. Moyazzem Hossain Sobuj from the Department of Statistics and Data Science and Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman Jami from the Department of Archaeology. They encouraged students to engage more actively in research and emphasised the importance of collective efforts in building a knowledge-based society.

The event highlighted JURS’s achievements and milestones over the past two years, guidance from research advisors, opportunities for networking among members and well-wishers, and the formal transfer of responsibilities to the new executive committee.

The new executive committee for 2025 was officially announced at the event. Md. Abu Rumman from the Department of Mathematics has been appointed as President, Mst. Samiha Akter Salma from the Department of International Relations and Samiur Rahman from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning as Vice Presidents. Md. Raihan Kabir from the Department of Statistics and Data Science assumed the role of General Secretary.

The Joint Secretaries are Tonima Rahman Tithi and Ms. Farzana Afroz Tasnim from the Department of Pharmacy. Mushfiqur Rahman from the Department of Management Studies will serve as Treasurer, with Sharmin Jahan Khadiza from the Department of Public Administration as Assistant Treasurer.

The newly elected committee pledged to uphold the society’s motto, “Research in the Quest for Knowledge,” and to make its activities more impactful and outcome-oriented.
