JU VC urges students to stay away from drugs

Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan today urged students to stay away from drugs and drug-related activities, describing drug addicts as “misguided and harmed individuals”.
He made the remarks while addressing a seminar and documentary screening titled Madoker Biruddhe Amra Jahangirnagar (We Jahangirnagar, Against Drugs), organised by the JU Students’ Counselling and Guidance Centre at the university’s Senate Hall around noon on 22 October, 2025.
“Each person is a dream of their parents. We must not deviate from that goal. Companionship plays a vital role in life – one should avoid those whose influence leads to negative change. Drug addicts are both misguided and harmed, so we must remain distant from drugs and those associated with them,” the VC said.
He also emphasised that alongside personal awareness, students should educate their peers, relatives and neighbours about the destructive impact of drug addiction.
The seminar was presided over by Professor Md Jamal Uddin, Director of the JU Students’ Counselling and Guidance Centre, while JU Proctor Professor Dr AKM Rashidul Alam and Department of Narcotics Control Director Mazharul Islam also spoke.
A good number of teachers and students from various departments attended the event.
