The Jahangirnagar University Debate Organisation (JUDO) organised its 54th Batch Freshers’ Reception and Debate Workshop 2025 under the slogan “Let words be the flag of resistance”, welcoming the newest members of the university in a vibrant celebration of ideas, dialogue, and expression.

The workshop began with an interactive session led by former JUDO Vice-President Sohanur Rahman, who explained the fundamentals of debating, its importance in daily life, and its role in developing communication and critical thinking skills.

Lawyer Manjur Al Matin, attending as a guest speaker, emphasised the transformative power of debate in shaping confidence and intellect. “Debate is one of the best skills to nurture, as it enhances thinking and public speaking,” he said. “I congratulate all those who have joined the world of debate through JUDO and wish you all the best.”

The session also featured renowned presenter and actress Mousumi Mou, who shared insights on effective presentation techniques and strategies for public speaking. Her engaging delivery inspired the participants to pursue debating with enthusiasm and confidence.

The event was attended by several distinguished faculty members, including Professor Md Jamal Uddin of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Dr A K M Rashidul Alam, Proctor of Jahangirnagar University, and Mridha Md Shiblee Noman, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Media Studies.

A student-teacher debate on “Post-July Uprising: The Future of Education in the Country” followed the workshop, receiving an enthusiastic response from the audience.

Convener Nazmul Wara Talha reflected on his journey, saying, “Two years ago, I sat where you are today, attending a JUDO welcome event. I never imagined I’d one day be organising it. JUDO has nurtured my leadership skills, and I encourage all of you to stay connected—you may find yourselves leading such events in the future.”

Talha and JUDO President Mirza Saki presented gifts, including plants and mementoes, to the guests, while the freshers received crests and certificates of recognition. The evening concluded with a lively cultural performance, filling the auditorium with energy and excitement.

In his closing remarks, JUDO President Mirza Saki said, “Just as flowers symbolise love, grief, and rebellion, the 54th batch will play a pioneering role in shaping Bangladesh’s future. I extend my deepest thanks to the students and guests for joining us in celebrating the spirit of debate.”
