BUTEX honours July martyrs, calls for politics free campus

Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) solemnly commemorated the martyrs of the July 2024 revolution today (16 July). The ceremony, held at 1:30pm in the university auditorium, brought the entire campus together for a heartfelt moment of remembrance and reflection.
The July martyrs were remembered through prayers with utmost honour and respect, as students, faculty, and staff reflected on the courage and conviction of those who lost their lives in the pursuit of justice and institutional reform. The atmosphere was marked by dignity, silence and a shared sense of responsibility to uphold the values for which the martyrs stood.
In a notable moment during the ceremony, a proposal was raised to declare 8 August as ‘BUTEX Politics-Free Day’, commemorating the collective effort to protect the university’s academic neutrality. The proposal received strong support and is expected to become a significant observance in the institution’s calendar.
“Every stakeholder of BUTEX must work jointly to prevent the return of student politics and ensure that our campus remains a safe, inclusive and politics-free environment,” said the Vice Chancellor.
He also acknowledged and appreciated those who worked relentlessly over the past year to help restore peace and neutrality on campus.
“We must respect their efforts and remain resilient in safeguarding our university from any future political influence,” he added.
The ceremony stood not just as a tribute to those who were lost, but as a reaffirmation of BUTEX’s institutional integrity – a reflection on sacrifice, a commitment to unity, and a call to protect the values that define the campus community.
