Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has taken action against several faculty members, officials, and students. The decisions were finalised during the university’s 108th Regent Board meeting, held at the administrative building on Friday afternoon (15 August).

As per the resolutions, Dr Firoz Kabir, Assistant Professor at the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, has been temporarily suspended for making remarks that were seen as strengthening autocracy and for preventing students from attending Jumu’ah prayers during the July movement—actions deemed inconsistent with the conduct expected of a teacher. Additionally, Dr Asikur Rahman, Professor of Chemical Engineering, has been temporarily suspended for undertaking a postdoctoral assignment abroad without prior approval.

In connection to an ongoing Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case, Md Abdur Rouf, Deputy Director of Planning, Development and Maintenance (PnD), has been temporarily suspended. The board has also reactivated a previously postponed suspension order against Md Shafiul Alam, Assistant Engineer of the Engineering Office.

Furthermore, Mr Helalul Islam, former General Secretary of the JUST Officers’ Association and current General Secretary of Jessore District Bangabandhu Parishad, has been permanently dismissed from service, following recommendations from the investigation board and as per university regulations.

The Regent Board has also decided to expel eight students from university halls and restrict their entry to the campus. These include four students involved in the assault of a journalist in 2022 and another four accused in a case related to obstruction during a criminal investigation.

JUST reiterates its commitment to maintaining a safe, ethical, and respectful academic environment for all members of its community.
