Kuet teachers boycott classes, demand justice over February attacks

Teachers at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) have announced they will not return to classes until their three-point demand is met, including justice over the 18 February attack on students and faculty members.

The decision came at an emergency meeting of the KuetTeachers’ Association on Thursday (16 April). They are demanding that those responsible for assaulting teachers, including the Vice-Chancellor, be identified and held accountable, reports UNB.

In a press release issued yesterday (21 April), the association rejected ongoing student protests calling for the VC’s resignation, calling the demands “unjustified” and “based on baseless and unrealistic allegations.”

The teachers condemned what they described as attempts to destabilise the campus through misinformation and called for calm.

On 18 February, a group of outsiders attacking students on campus, reportedly harassing the VC and other faculty members. In response, the association has formed a five-member inquiry committee, led by Dr Abdullah Al Faruque, to investigate both physical and online abuse.

The teachers, through a joint statement, reaffirmed their unity and warned against any authoritarian influence disguised as student activism.
