RU teachers, staff continue work stoppage for third day over benefits

Teachers, officers, and employees of Rajshahi University (RU) observed a work stoppage and sit-in for the third consecutive day today (18 August), demanding the elimination of discrimination and the reinstatement of institutional benefits.
The programme began at 9am in front of the administrative building and continued until 1pm. Organisers said that all departmental activities, except for examinations, were suspended during the protest.
Teachers participating in the demonstration said the administration must take immediate steps to remove discrimination at the university and restore the dependent quota benefit.
They claimed that this benefit exists at all other universities in the country and questioned why Rajshahi University should be different.
Describing the issue as discriminatory, they demanded the reinstatement of what they termed their rights.
More than a hundred teachers, officers, and employees from different departments of the university joined the work stoppage and sit-in.
The organisers have also announced a full-day suspension of classes and work for all departments, except for examinations and emergency services, tomorrow (19 August).
