SAARC Agriculture Centre Book Corner inaugurated at GAU

A dedicated SAARC Agriculture Centre (SAC) Book Corner was inaugurated on 22 July 2025 at the library of Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU), aiming to enhance access to regional agricultural research and strengthen academic collaboration across South Asia.

The Book Corner, featuring nearly 200 publications, was jointly inaugurated by Professor Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman, Vice Chancellor of GAU, and Dr Md Harunur Rashid, Director of the SAARC Agriculture Centre.

The ceremony was attended by Professor Dr M Moynal Haque, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GAU, and Professor Dr Md Safiul Islam Afrad, Treasurer of the university. The event was chaired by Professor Dr Md Yunus Miah, Chief of the GAU Library.

Senior officials from the SAARC Agriculture Centre were also present, including Dr Md Younus Ali (Livestock), Dr Sikander Khan Tanveer (Crops), and Dr Raza Ullah Khan (Natural Resource Management), along with SAC representatives, university officials, faculty members, and students.

Supported by SAC, the Book Corner hosts a collection of scholarly works on key agricultural topics such as crops, horticulture, livestock, poultry, fisheries, natural resource management, climate-smart agriculture, and policies for drought- and salinity-affected regions.

Professor Dr GKM Mustafizur Rahman stated that the publications would serve as valuable resources for students, researchers, and faculty members committed to agricultural development.

Dr Md Harunur Rashid highlighted that the publications reflect the collaborative efforts of researchers and academics across SAARC countries to address regional agricultural challenges. He emphasised their relevance for postgraduate and doctoral research.

He further noted that SAC actively conducts regional research, facilitates policy dialogues, and organises capacity-building initiatives to strengthen agricultural systems in South Asia. The Centre also shares knowledge through publications, workshops, and technical exchanges.

To date, the SAARC Agriculture Centre has published over 250 research books, which are regularly distributed to agricultural universities and institutions across the region to foster knowledge sharing and cooperation.
