Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has cancelled all quotas for first-year undergraduate admissions following a decision made at its 180th Academic Council meeting.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A M. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury stated that the quotas were removed with unanimous consent, though discussions continue on retaining some reasonable quotas based on admission committee recommendations.
SUST, which offers 1,671 seats across 28 departments, previously had reserved quotas for freedom fighters, ethnic minorities, disabled students, dependents, tea workers, and athletes.
The move follows student protests demanding the removal of quotas, leading to the suspension of reserved quota admissions.
