Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has launched three Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) double-decker buses to improve commuting facilities for students travelling between the campus and Sylhet city.

The inauguration ceremony was held on 4 August 2025 in front of the university’s Administration Building-1. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A M Sarwar Uddin Chowdhury inaugurated the buses as the chief guest. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Sajedul Karim and Treasurer Professor Dr Md Ismail Hossain attended as special guests. The event was presided over by Transport Administrator Professor A F M Zakaria and conducted by Acting Registrar A F M Miftaul Haque.

Among those present were North East University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Iqbal, the Director of Student Counselling and Guidance, faculty deans, institute directors, proctorial body members, department heads, hall provosts and assistant provosts, office heads, student representatives from various campus organisations, and a large number of teachers, students and administrative staff.

University authorities described the launch as a significant development for campus transportation. They said the addition of three BRTC double-decker buses would bring a new dimension to existing services and contribute to better capacity and discipline in student commuting. Plans are also in place to introduce a dedicated shuttle service from the university’s main gate to the campus.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor noted that every administrative initiative is guided by a commitment to the welfare of teachers, students, officers, and staff. The Treasurer added that this upgrade represents an important step towards building a more structured and effective campus transport system.

Transport Administrator Professor Zakaria expressed gratitude to the university administration, BRTC, and all stakeholders whose cooperation made the initiative possible. The new buses will operate regularly between the university and key points across Sylhet city, offering students a more comfortable and reliable commuting option.
