Sust marked Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2025 with vibrant conference and cultural showcase

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) celebrated the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples 2025 on Saturday (9 August) with a conference on indigenous rights and a vibrant cultural show. The day-long programme, organised by the Association of Indigenous Students (AOIS), featured traditional dances, songs, and discussions highlighting indigenous heritage.
According to organisers, Vice-Chancellor Prof A M Sarwar Uddin Chowdhury attended as chief guest, alongside senior university officials and indigenous leaders Gouranga Patra and Abdul Karim Kim. Speakers called for unity, equal rights, and global recognition of indigenous identity, while encouraging students to remain focused on education and harmony. The event saw strong participation from students, faculty, and guests, fostering awareness and cultural appreciation.
