Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) is set to host its first-ever TEDx event on Saturday, 6 September 2025, at the university’s Central Auditorium. The day-long programme will bring together distinguished speakers from diverse fields under the globally recognised TED platform, which is founded on the philosophy of “Ideas Worth Spreading.”

With the official TED licence, TEDxSUST aims to connect the thoughts of SUST students and the local community in Sylhet with global conversations. This year’s theme, “SAPIEN-Ware,” will explore the pressing question of where human values and truth stand amidst the rapid innovation and change driven by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and artificial intelligence.

Speakers from technology, education, entrepreneurship, and creative industries will share their perspectives throughout the event. Notable names include Prof Mustafizur Rahman, expert in micro/nano machining; Tony Karim Khan, international chef; Abdur Rakib, Chief Operating Officer of Programming Hero; Syed Almas Kabir, former president of BASIS and Chief Executive Officer of MetroNet; Prof Chowdhury Abul Anam Rashed, Department of IPE, SUST; Dr Md Al-Amin, Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology, SUST; Umma Kulsum Popy, Bangladesh’s first female agri-influencer; Sohag Mia (Sohag360), tech influencer and educator; Sayem Faruk, Founder and CEO of Airwrk AI; and Sabbir Jahangir, HR Director of Perfetti Van Melle Bangladesh.

In addition, SUST students K M Shariat Ullah and Abul Bashar Raj will also speak at the event, sharing their insights from a student perspective.

Reflecting on the vision behind the event, one of the key organisers, Nur Mohammad Ashiq of the Department of IPE, SUST, said: “TEDxSUST is not just an event; it will be a gathering of diverse minds, where fresh perspectives and inspiring stories come alive.”
