UIU English Language Forum hosts “36 July Quiz Competition” in honour of the July Uprising martyrs

United International University (UIU) recently held the “36 July Quiz Competition”, an engaging and thought-provoking event that brought together history, intellect, and a deep sense of respect for those who shaped the nation’s destiny.
Organised by the UIU English Language Forum in collaboration with the Directorate of Career Counselling & Student Affairs (DCCSA), the programme transformed an ordinary afternoon into a powerful celebration of knowledge and memory.
The competition was dedicated to honouring the martyrs of July 2024, a tragic yet defining moment in Bangladesh’s history when students stood up for justice and freedom, paying the ultimate price. Organisers emphasised that no tribute could ever truly repay the sacrifices made, yet events like this ensure their legacy continues to inspire generations.
With just 20 minutes on the clock, participants faced 36 multiple-choice questions covering a wide range of topics, from the “Uprising of July 2024” to English language challenges such as synonyms, antonyms, and jumbled words. There were also questions centred on the 2024 mass movement, testing not only quick thinking but also depth of historical awareness and vocabulary skills.
The atmosphere was electric as students raced against time, their minds shifting rapidly between language puzzles and moments of national history. The winners emerged with both pride and prizes of total Tk12,000.
Speaking after the event, the organisers noted that this was far more than a language quiz. It was a living reminder of a chapter in Bangladesh’s story that deserves to be told and retold. They expressed their commitment to hosting similar events in the future, blending learning with the preservation of collective memory.
The day closed with smiles, applause, and a shared understanding among students, faculty, and staff that history is not just something to be read in books, it is a responsibility to remember, honour, and carry forward.
