The session was delivered by Md. Subail Bin Alam, Chief Operating Officer of Rancon Infrastructure and Engineering Ltd., Director of Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Ltd., and a founding member of the Center for Science, Tech & Policy Diplomacy. Held at a time of heightened relevance, the session addressed Bangladesh’s ongoing energy insecurity, rising fuel costs, and increasing climate vulnerabilities.

Drawing on his extensive professional experience, Mr Alam offered practical insights into the country’s current energy landscape, highlighting key industry challenges, policy considerations, and the growing importance of renewable energy solutions in ensuring long-term energy resilience. His remarks enabled students to bridge academic theory with real-world energy transition strategies and industry practices.

The session formed part of the Renewable Energy course under the Department of Environmental Studies and Sustainability (ESS), delivered by Dr. Shahana Afrose Chowdhury, Associate Professor, and Nayma Akther Jahan, Lecturer-cum-Research Associate. In line with its thematic focus, the session was conducted entirely using natural daylight, with classroom lighting switched off to reduce electricity consumption and promote responsible energy use.

Through interactive engagement, students developed a deeper understanding of prevailing energy challenges, explored renewable energy opportunities relevant to Bangladesh, and reflected on the key factors shaping the national energy sector. The session also enhanced participants’ analytical capabilities, industry awareness, and solution-oriented thinking.

Through initiatives led by the Centre for Sustainable Development, ULAB continues to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, fostering knowledge exchange and equipping students to contribute towards a more resilient and sustainable energy future for Bangladesh.
