As students and young professionals, we often struggle to buy affordable gadgets or daily necessities, and even when these are found, the reliability and authenticity remain a question. The man behind Brittoo.xyz, Durjoy Saha, observed the same issues, albeit within his campus of Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET).

“During my campus life, I noticed students frequently buying items like project equipment, books, cameras, cycles, bikes, electronics, and gadgets, only to let them sit idle afterward,” Durjoy explains. “I thought, why not create a system that allows people to rent, share, or barter locally instead of buying everything new?”

This was recognised nationally when Durjoy and his team’s innovation was awarded the championship in the Business Service category at the Bangladesh ICT & Innovation Awards. Durjoy expressed that this was a team effort. Alongside Durjoy and co-founder Asadullah Al Galib, Nabila Ferdous (CPO) shaped the product vision, and Anika Tahasin (CMO) promoted the platform within RUET with mentoring coming from mentors Mahir Asef of YUNet, Shahida Afrin from AI Bangladesh, and Saiyam Meshkat of Technowren.

How it works 

Brittoo functions as a smart local marketplace, connecting users within the vicinity of a 1 to 6 km radius. Users can rent, buy, or barter any item from their neighbours. If any student requires specific equipment for just a few weeks of laboratory work, or someone needs a camera only for one day, it is way better and more responsible for them to rent it rather than buy something that will inevitably become redundant. 

There is also the choice of utilising unused gadgets and technologies. If you own something that you do not require on a regular basis, you can make some money just by lending it in this marketplace, whereas before it would just be sitting somewhere without any utility. 

The platform addresses underutilisation of resources and provides affordable access to everyday items. Its intended users include students, freelancers, small business owners, and everyday citizens. By turning neighborhoods into circular economies, Brittoo.xyz promotes sustainability, affordability, and community trust.

Technology behind brittoo.xyz

AI plays a crucial role in shaping the backend of brittoo. The Gemini API powers an agentic price bidder and negotiator to automate fair deal-making. 

IoT-enabled lockers are being developed to facilitate secure, contactless exchanges. 

The system uses Docker containers, Nginx reverse proxy, and GitHub Actions CI/CD, with security ensured through JWT authentication, role-based access control, HTTPS, and WAF protection.

Unlike traditional marketplaces, Brittoo.xyz combines renting, bartering, and a rent-to-own model into one ecosystem. It also offers peer-to-peer decentralized storage, allowing users to safely store items for others, reducing logistics costs and building community trust. Its AI negotiator ensures smooth, unbiased transactions, creating a truly smart, sustainable access economy. 

Development journey 

Durjoy explained that building initial trust and safety in peer-to-peer exchange was a major challenge. For the platform to be trustworthy, it introduced a system to rate the user behaviors so that people with on-time returns, dispute history, and communication ratings can have a reliable Brittoo Credit Score.

This resulted in renters knowing exactly who he is lending his gadgets to and what can be expected from this transaction. Also, the pricing is fair and balanced because AI helps in matching the affordability and willingness of price setting by the lender with a clean, progressive interface.

The road ahead 

Brittoo’s impact can have long-term benefits in how traditional online business is conducted, as it is highly localised. Durjoy shares, “While many people are open to sharing resources, they often hesitate because of safety concerns or the lack of a reliable system. Industries, too, lack structured systems for micro-rentals or bartering. Brittoo.xyz fills this gap with verified profiles, digital credit scores, insurance add-ons, and AI-based negotiation, creating a safe, efficient, and fair hyperlocal exchange.”

While Brittoo is operating only within the vicinity of RUET, it plans to expand across university campuses, then to broader communities, partnering with local startups to reach students, freelancers, and young professionals nationwide.  

Brittoo.xyz aligns with Bangladesh’s Smart Bangladesh Vision and UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDGs 8, 11, and 12. 

By enabling local sharing, it encourages circular economies, reduces waste, and creates digital earning opportunities, which will undoubtedly incentivise local communities’ acceptance and participation.
