The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations scheduled for Thursday, 24 July, have also been postponed, the education adviser announced on Tuesday.

The decision follows the earlier postponement of today’s (Tuesday, 22 July) exams, in the wake of Monday night’s tragic aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara.

Professor Dr C R Abrar, education adviser, made the announcement while addressing students during a visit to the school on Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday night, he had informed the information and broadcasting adviser of the postponement of today’s exams. The ministry’s public relations officer, Md Mamun-or-Rashid, later conveyed the update to the media.

Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, also confirmed the postponement in a verified Facebook post at around 3:00am on Tuesday, writing: “Today’s HSC examination has been postponed.”

The Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in the Diabari area of Uttara on 21 July. At least 31 people, including children and the pilot, have been reported dead, and around 171 others injured.

There are growing fears the death toll could rise.

In light of the tragedy, the education ministry has decided to suspend both today’s and Thursday’s HSC and equivalent examinations.
