The New Year has arrived with long-awaited news for BTS fans worldwide, as the South Korean supergroup has officially confirmed its return to music in spring 2026. BigHit Music announced on 1 January via its Korean-language X account that BTS will make their comeback on 20 March, ending a hiatus of nearly four years.

The reunion marks the group’s first full-scale release since its members undertook South Korea’s mandatory military service. RM, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook have all now completed their enlistments, paving the way for one of the most anticipated comebacks in K-pop history.

Hints of new material had been circulating for months. In a November update on fan platform Weverse, RM reassured fans that progress was well under way, saying the group was working hard and that the music was shaping up well. Jungkook also teased the significance of the coming months in an interview with Elle Korea, suggesting spring would be a particularly meaningful time.

Five members were discharged in June 2025 and soon reunited publicly with j-hope and Jin, confirming plans for a new studio album and a world tour. The group said they would enter the studio immediately, promising to reconnect with fans across the globe alongside the album’s release.

During their time apart, BTS members pursued solo projects, while the group’s legacy continued to dominate the industry. BTS have scored six No 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and six chart-toppers on the Billboard Hot 100. They were also named IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year in both 2020 and 2021, becoming the first act to win the title consecutively.
