Economics Study Center, the pioneer student chapter of the Department of Economics, University of Dhaka, is proud to present the 5th Bangladesh Economics Summit (BES) 2024.
BES is a platform for economics students around the country to meet and share ideas about economics and political economy. BES acts as a forum for students, providing the opportunity for the application of theoretical knowledge in economics. The summit also aims to promote dialogue between academicians and policymakers.

The 5th Bangladesh Economics Summit chose “4IR” as its theme to address the transformative impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This focus is crucial for economic development, policy decisions, educational insight, and adapting to global technological changes, making it a timely and relevant choice.
The summit provides a platform for students, academicians, and policymakers to delve into the implications of 4IR, fostering an understanding of how Bangladesh can harness these technologies for economic growth and sustainable development. It also addresses the need for strategic policymaking in response to the technological shifts that are redefining industries and labour markets worldwide.

“𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭” – 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐝 :
It’s an opportunity for school, college and university students to participate in solving economic problems, aiming to engage and challenge the intellect of young minds in the field of economics from an early age. EconQuest will feature two categories,
High School (Class 9-12)
University (1st and 2nd year University Students)
The competition structure includes a rigorous written round (For both categories) and an ultimate final round (Only for the University category).
For the High School category, We encourage participants from NCTB, Cambridge, Edexcel and any other curriculum to participate.
Please note that students from HSC Batch 23 can participate in the High School Category as well. Also, the high school category has only one round and the university category has two rounds.
For the University category, along with students who are majoring in economics, we encourage participants who are not majoring in Economics but have an interest in the discipline to participate as well.
Note that, we have a participant cap, and will close the registration form as soon as we have responses meeting the capacity. Participation slots will be awarded on a first-come, – first-served basis.

It will feature six of the most renowned debaters of the country debating in a parliamentary format on a socio-economic issue to enlighten different perspectives of public policy. More details coming soon!

Topic: Financing Healthcare in the Digital Age
Digital Financing in healthcare is the key to leveraging digital advancements to enhance financial models which contributes to resilient and adaptive healthcare financing in the rapidly evolving landscape of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Through this topic undergraduate economics enthusiasts will brainstorm the challenges and find solutions to better healthcare coverage and resilience in health financing amidst the digital era’s uncertainties.
Rules: The essay must be written in English. The competition is open for students currently enrolled in any undergraduate program in the country. The essay must be written individually. The word limit for the essay is 2700 words.

Details: A competition to illustrate the most meaningful insights from a dataset on a theme. It will revolve around a particular socio-economic issue with diverse variables containing dummy values. The dataset can be enhanced using additional data from the web about the provided variables (Using shapefile or admin area to map the coordinate data). The goal is to illustrate the issue with the help of unique and interesting implications.

The launch of the 5th volume of Bangladesh Students’ Digest on Economics and Development (BSDED) is taking place at the summit. BSDED is a prestigious student journal that showcases outstanding research papers authored by undergraduate and postgraduate level students selected through a rigorous peer review process.
𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
The published authors of BSDED will also have the unique opportunity to present their research papers at the summit. It provides a scope to elicit valuable feedback and has the benefit of elaborating on the research process to eager students.
