BUP Film Fest 2024

In the whirlwind of day-to-day life, where moments blur into a plethora of tasks and ‘must-dos’, there lies a sanctuary of cinema, where our lives paths blend into a world painted with stories. They take us on trips to far-off lands, make us laugh, cry and feel a myriad of feelings without moving a bit. They remind us that within the confines of our schedules, there’s a universe where time stands still, and we are free to dream, feel, and be anything we desire. In every individual’s life, there lie countless stories, big adventures, and dreams hidden like treasures. When combined, they create a unique movie of that person’s life.

Nearly seven decades ago, a filmmaker not yet recognized was turning his dreams and struggles — struggle, a word that resonates deeply with the Bengali society into a legacy. A new director who sold his own life insurance and even his wife’s jewelry to pay for his dream. He made a movie that really shook up the world of movie-making, which has gained worldwide recognition for being one of the most magnificent movies ever made in the history of cinema. “Pather Pachali,” directed by Satyajit Ray is a one of a kind cinema. Based on Bibhutibhusan Bandopadhay’s 1929 novel of the same name, ‘Pather Panchali’, which essentially translates in English to ‘Song of the Little Road’, is all about spotting the bright colors of life through the dark clouds and grim of misery. It was the first and debut film of Ray’s ‘The Apu Trilogy’,’ as popularly known. With a remarkably simple story, “Pather Panchali” makes us envision the intimate bond between the brother-sister duo of Apu and Durga.

Themed around the timeless classic, we invite you to wander with us on a journey as the BUP Film Club is bringing its signature event “BUP Film Fest-2024” with the tagline “Embark on softness amidst chained life,” where young filmmakers, storytellers, artists, and myriads of creative minds come together to showcase their unique talents. We warmly welcome everyone to come and see the creativity that fills our space. Let us journey together, leaving behind all the pessimism of the world to find ourselves in the land of stories and other artistries.
