Fact-Checking Training Program Commences to Enhance Credibility of News Media. In an effort to bolster the credibility of news media and combat the dissemination of misinformation, a comprehensive fact-checking training program was launched on Friday. The program, which is being implemented by the Center for Communication and Development of Bangladesh (CCD Bangladesh), has gathered 25 esteemed teachers from journalism departments across public and private universities. The training session is taking place at a prominent hotel in the capital city.

Participants of the program voiced concerns over the current state of the media, noting that negative news often perpetuates anxiety among the public. They emphasized the urgent need for fact-checking to combat this perilous trend and restore trust in journalism.

The attending teachers highlighted the significance of reader engagement and stressed that the responsibility for fact-checking extends beyond journalists. They underlined the potential of journalism students who receive training in fact-checking to actively counter rumors and misinformation, thus playing a crucial role in upholding the integrity of news dissemination.

Supported by the European Union and Internews, CCD Bangladesh aims to equip the participating teachers with the necessary skills to impart fact-checking knowledge to their students. Following the training, the teachers will join the Bangladesh Fact-Checking Network (BFCN), a Facebook-based platform, to collaborate with one another in identifying and debunking misinformation.

The two-day training program is set to conclude on Saturday, after which the newly trained teachers will be equipped with the tools and resources needed to promote fact-checking in their respective institutions. This initiative holds promise for fostering a more accountable and reliable news media landscape in Bangladesh.
